Pressure System Safety Regulations

Pressure Systems Safety Regulations Examination

The Pressure Systems Safety Regulations require a written scheme of examination (WSE) is completed on all steam equipment and for most pressure systems.

Our qualified and competent examiners will visit your site to:

  • Identify assets that come under the PSSR.
  • Produce a Written Scheme.
  • Detailed asset examination and test.
  • Product a written report in accordance the PSSR.

Prior to issue, all reports are audited by an Incorporated or Chartered Engineering in accordance with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR).

Safemach are PressureSafe members.

What equipment comes under the PSSR?

It is a legal requirement to have a Written Scheme of Examination (WSE) carried out by a competent person on the following:

  • All steam equipment.
  • Equipment containing a relevant fluid of more than 250 bar/litres (pressure x volume = bar/litres).

Example of such equipment include:

  • Compressors.
  • Barista style coffee machines.
  • Autoclaves.
  • Accumulators.
  • Air-receivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

PSSR stands for the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations, which is a legal requirement for steam equipment and pressure system over 250 bar/litres.

The PSSR applies when the relevant fluid is steam or when the relevant fluid (gas or any fluid or mixture of fluids greater than 0.5 bar, or a liquid which would have a vapour pressure greater than 0.5 bar) of more than 250 bar/litres (pressure x volume = bar/litres).

A WSE must be carried out by a competent examiner and the report signed off by an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.

Safemach provide this for their customers.

If the pressure volume is greater than 250 bar/litres, then the Pressure System Safety Regulations (PSSR) apply.

Pressure volumes is calculated by multiplying pressure x volume to give bar/litres.
